FAQ's
How Much Does It Cost To Record At Figure Media?
Our rate is $60 an hour. This includes mastering and mixdown.
I Am Not Sure If You Record Certain Genres. Will You Cater To My Style?
Yes! With over a decade of recording experience, we have covered just about every genre imaginable.
Do You Have Any Policies That I Need To Know About Before I Come In?
Yes, illegal drugs and firearms are strictly prohibited at our facility. Should you show up to the studio “stoned or drunk”, that is your choice. Just don’t bring them in our studio. We can make a judgment call whether you are coherent enough to perform in the studio and reserve the right to cancel your session at any time.
What About Profanity In The Music?
Your message is your message. We don’t turn down or filter who we record based on your content unless one rule is broken…your content conveys a message that could potentially cause harm to you or us in the process. Be intelligent about your freedom of speech. There is a right way and a wrong way to speak your mind!
Where Are You Located And Can We “Drop-In”?
Our facility is located at 939 Bowman Court, Taylorsville, NC 28681. We do not accept drop-ins. We highly suggest you call 828-234-8955 or email figurestudios@gmail.com before you decide to just come by. Odds are, we will be in session or if it is late and you trigger our cameras, you may have the cops called on you.
What Are Your Hours?
We will answer this very ambiguously…it is "moderately flexible". We book on a first-come first-serve basis. Those hours are based on our schedule and yours. Fridays are the only days we don’t schedule studio time. When you book, you will be able to see our availability and choose a session date and time that fits for both you and us.
What About Your Cancellation Policy?
We have changed this policy so many times over the years and allowing 24 hours to cancel a session is an acceptable amount of heads up for us. Should you have an emergency on your way to the studio, we will always pardon situations like that. However, if you schedule studio time and do not call or show up at all, you will no longer be able to return to our studio. NO EXCEPTIONS. We have a lot of people that want studio time and people who aren’t responsible enough to call ahead costs us money and time. Thank you ahead of time for your understanding on this.
Can I Get There Early?
We don’t advise showing up early as well as showing up late. We recommend arriving about 5-10 minutes before your session. The clock starts when you get inside the studio. If you show up at 10:50 for an 11:00 session set for an hour-long, we could go for an extra 10 minutes but typically we don’t overcharge for 10-15 min over or under time.
Do You Pull Beats From Youtube?
Yes we do, but it is not recommended. Especially if there are “tags” from the producer all over it. It just makes you look unprofessional and you will not be taken seriously from other labels and managers in your industry. There are cases where beats from youtube are free to use. In this case, make sure that you read all of the fine print, especially if you plan on selling your material for profit. If the beat is up for sale and we rip the audio for you to record over and sell it for profit, you are asking for a really gnarly lawsuit on your hands. Please avoid doing that. Take the time to buy beats, write them yourself, or hire us to write one for you. In the long run, you will be much, much better off.
Should I Copyright My Original Material?
We will always say yes. You can do this online with www.bmi.com. If you get radio time and need to collect your royalties or you just want to protect yourself from infringement of your material, go ahead and copyright your stuff.
Should Check Into Paying Royalties If I Am Performing Someone Else’s Material?
If you plan on profiting any money at all on selling your product, then the answer is definitely yes! You can also do this online with www.bmi.com. Keep in mind that we are not the copyright police and the precautions you take are completely up to you as we are not liable once your tracks have left our studio.
What Is Your Studio Environment Like?
Contrary to these really stern topics that almost make us seem like big ole’ jerks, we are a very laid-back group of professionals that only want to make you sound the best you possibly can and all-the-while mend a great friendship and hopefully a great music connection in the process.
How Long Does It Typically Take To Record A Song?
That is a really hard question to answer. It depends on how many parts that need to be put down. If you are a rap artist with a beat ready to go that only needs your vocals to polish it off…then we are talking anywhere from an hour to three hours, depending on how well you do, how many layers we are adding, ad lib tracks, and how well you know your material. This is the same case for a full band…except you need to add a couple of hours into the equation for mic’ing drums etc. Should you choose triggering drums in the “digital age”, you could shave a few hours off of the original time frame.
Do You Have Specials Or Packages?
We rarely do unless it is a seasonal promotion that we are having during our slower months. We have worked out packages for bands and solo artists who are tracking full albums with us. Inquire about that at 828-234-8955 or email figurestudios@gmail.com
Do You Have Specials Or Packages?
In a perfect world, it would be nice to track a single or record and we could push it out to just the right people. But it just doesn't work that way. Our focus is on you and your performances so we can help you come out with the best-sounding track/album as possible. We suggest that you start talking with people and network with other artists. Consider hiring a manager and investigating who you need to talk to in order to get on a label or promote your music to the right audience. It is tough out there and we want to help you with the start of it, and that is having great material for people to listen to.
